Detroit Red Wings Would Like To Trade For Pier Luke Dubois…What Would It Take?

Detroit Red Wings Would Like To Trade For Pier Luke Dubois…What Would It Take?

According to Aaron Portslain who is a Columbus blue jackets writer for the athletic the Detroit red wings are unsurprisingly among teams seriously interested in acquiring center pier luke dubois from the blue jackets also thank you to the man himself chris who caught this on Sirius xm nhl on their broadcast and this tweet went sort of viral because of course it did red wings fans on twitter saw this and they were like oh crap we want pure luke dubois okay now let me just say this before we even get into the should we could we would have discussions hey the red wings are a young team the red wings are looking to be good later rather than sooner it’s kind of weird saying that phrase like that because we always hear at the opposite but we never hear it the way that i just said it they want to be better in the long term future today they don’t really care where they finish and when a guy who is one of the best u23 players in the entire nhl today who is a consistent point producer already who is looking to be even better who is already a capable two-way center 200-foot player who does very good things on and off the ice when that guy’s available you want him no matter what that’s the kind of guy that when you know is in the market that’s the kind of guy you go after especially for a red wings team that is looking to have their timeline of success align with the best days of pierre luke dubois career and so when we’re talking about this idea here the detroit red wings going after pierre luke dubois the big discussion to have is what would the return be now we spoke about this a few times in previous articles but yeah you know pierre luke dubois is very valuable he’s not a guy that’s going to go for cheap you can’t just go over like some habs fans that i saw and just say oh here you go take jordan wheel to first and matthias norlander you’ll say yes right you can’t just pick up garbage and throw it at the columbus blue jackets and expect them to give you dubois return it doesn’t work like that you have to give up something that they would actually have to say yes to and that they would actually see value in as well so when we go over to the detroit red wings subreddit because this tweet was posted on there let’s take a look at some of the comments over here if you want some reference for how much this would cost look at the mark stone deal when mark stone was dealt over to vegas it cost them one of their top prospects another young player and a second round pick you have to realize that pierluck dubois is a center he’s five years younger and he’s under five years of team control while stone was about to be a ufa we’re talking about something like bertuzzi or mantha and veleno or a bergeron and some draft picks i’m not even totally against this in theory but anytime there’s a post like this i always see some ridiculous lowball offers and yes don’t worry spongebob something pants i do agree with you we do see some fans go out there and just offer a whole bunch of garbage the next parts of the discussion on this reddit thread go over how oh mark stone you could debate who’s more valuable etc the fact is dubois is younger but he’s also got a lot more years ahead etc etc etc but that’s kind of what we’re working with here if it comes to a trade like this i want you to tell me in the comments below right now as this article is going don’t even stop reading the article just type while you’re reading would you do just a hypothetical manta velleno and a first a second and maybe a fourth for pierre luke dubois a whole bunch of draft picks a very nice young piece and an nhl caliber forward right now would you do this and when it comes to whether or not it’s something the columbus blue jackets would do honestly just because of how important pierre luke dubois is to that organization and based off of how good he could be i would not be surprised if it’s not even enough but frankly we can get to a point where even though it may not be enough or it may could be enough i don’t know we could get to a point where red wings fans or stevie y or people who are reading the red wings in the media are just saying like no i wouldn’t do that that’s too much but i want you to tell me in the comments if you would do that yourself manta valeno and a whole bunch of picks for pure luke dubois because that’s the kind of price it’s going to take and there are some fans in the comments section of this thread that i’m seeing that are like yeah you know even though that would be a tough pill to swallow i could honestly do that it would hurt but i would get over it in a couple of years because hey man imagine a larkin pure luke dubois duo down the middle oh my gosh you want to talk about center’s when you championships man that is the epitome of what would be a very very good top two center core into the long term future and hey you could go the entire opposite route and justify this trade by saying okay well the red wings could just go ahead and give up their first in the 2021 draft how does that sound eh because let’s face it if there’s a draft to be bad if there’s a draft to be last in the league it’s not 2021. that draft was 2020. that draft is 2022. that draft is 2023. these giraffes have alexi lafranier and quentin byfield at the top these drafts have shane wright matthew savoy and brad lambert at the top these drafts have mattvae mishkov and connor bedard at the top we know who’s going to be at the top of these drafts a year two years out but this year it’s different owen power luke hughes maddie beneath achieved achiratsu brent clark chas lucius esper walstead the fact is there is no solidified borderline franchise number one talent in the 2021 draft it’s why we’re so divided as to who should be first the other drafts all had top talents that were solidified as top talents from years before so if you’re gonna say all right well let’s do a trade that makes us not really all too much better on paper in the short term we give up a draft pick or two we still suck next year and then we get brad lambert how does that sound or we’re still sucking in 2023 and we get mattvishkov the next ovechkin there’s still room to extend this window of rebuilding if you want to steve eiserman didn’t build the stanley cup champion tampa bay lightning squad in a year it took him a while in fact it took him until after he was gone to do it and actually win the cup and i mean it wasn’t his team but you get what i’m talking about right it takes time for these things years and years of development and if you want to go out there and say hey columbus take this 2021 first it might end up being a luke hughes or an owen power or whatever but we’re shooting for the next year’s draft we’re going over for the top talents in 2022. i want to go for that matthew savoy man that guy looks great i do think that’s a valid argument and i don’t know if it’s enough to completely displace the conversation to one side as to whether or not it’s a good thing or a bad thing to do this dubois or a mansa or a bertuzi or a prospect and all that plus some picks kind of deal but you know it is a talking point that i do see value in so with that being established let me know if that does indeed change your perspective on whether or not you would want to do it because obviously the draft pick is as equally important as the roster player you would have to give up in a potential pld kind of trade so with that being established tell me in the comments would you do it with this discussion in mind and i don’t know what else is there to talk about yeah that’s pretty much it right pierre luke dubois the red wings want him now that we’re in a position where it’s out there in the media we’re having this conversation so tell me in the comments
